The John W. Engeman Theater is looking to expand our family. We are currently accepting resumes for the following positions:

 

AUDITIONS

The John W. Engeman Theater at Northport announces Open and Local Auditions for its upcoming production of Oklahoma! at 10AM and 2:30PM on Thursday, March 9; and at 12PM on Saturday, March 11, 2017. Richard Dolce, Producing Artistic Director; Vic DiMonda, Associate Producing Director; Oscar Hammerstein II, book & lyrics; Richard Rodgers, music; director, Igor Goldin; musical director TBA; choreographer Drew Humphrey; Wojcik/Seay Casting, Casting Office. Daytime rehearsals in NYC: 4/21/17; Open: 5/11/17; Close: 6/25/17.

 

All actors attending either call should prepare to sing 16-32 bars of music in the style of the show. You may sing from Oklahoma!. Please bring sheet music in the key in which you would like to sing, an accompanist will be provided. Bring your full book of music and a recent headshot/resume. Please bring dance clothes/shoes if asked to stay and dance. Details are below. Union and non-Union actors will be seen. The Producer will run all aspects of these auditions.

SEEKING:

 

CURLY McCLAIN – To play early 20s. Handsome, likeable cowboy. An idealist, full of hope for a future that includes Laurey. Legit full-bodied bari-tenor (Sustained F#).

LAUREY WILLIAMS – To play age 18-20. Lives on a farm with her Aunt Eller. Stubborn, yet sensitive, she is a dreamer who loves Curly, yet is unable to reveal this to him. Saucy yet legit light soprano (High F, possible high A)

AUNT ELLER – Age 45+. Strong pioneer woman. Her years have brought her an almost mystical connection with the land. Must move. Character alto (Low F).

ADO ANNIE – To play age 18-20. A young woman whose new-found attractiveness has left her both confused and uninhibited. Must move well – dance a plus. Comedic mezzo/alto (Sustained D, sings F).
WILL PARKER – To play early 20s. Cowboy who loves Ado Annie. A little slow on the uptake, he sees only what’s straight ahead of him. Strong dancing role – clogging a plus. Tenor or high baritone (Character, sustain high F).

JUD FRY – Age 30-40. Farmhand. His quiet and brooding surface hides an inner rage. Angry at the hand life has dealt him, he lashes out at those he dislikes. Ominous bass/baritone (C#).

ALI HAKIM – Age 30-40. Persian peddler who drifts from town to town, selling his wares and wooing the farmers’ daughters, always leaving before he gets caught. Comic role, non-singing.

GERTIE CUMMINGS – Age 18-24. Competes with Laurey for Curly’s attention. Has a rather distinctive laugh that both announces and defines her presence. A little of her goes a long way. Sings with ensemble.

ANDREW CARNES – Age 45+. Shotgun-toting protective father of Ado Annie. A farmer who would even let his daughter marry a peddler, as long as he comes up with the dowry. Tenor/high baritone (Sustained high F)

IKE SKIDMORE, CORD ELAM – Farmers, age 40+. Sing with ensemble.

MALE and FEMALE ENSEMBLE Singers and/or Dancers, all ages and types, to portray cowboys, farmers, their gals, dance hall girls, etc. Legit vocal style needed. Strong ballet training a plus.

 

THEATRICAL STAGE TECHNICIAN

The John W. Engeman Theater is currently seeking stage technicians. We are looking for technicians with experience in all fields (Lighting, Sound, and Carpentry.) Having experience in multiple fields is a plus. We have shows running all year around. The Technician will be working in a 400 seat Proscenium theater.

Qualifications:
– General Stagecraft
– Ability to lift at least 75lbs
– Comfortable working at heights
– Must be able to take direction

Responsibilities:
– Providing support to all productions
– Set-up, operation and Striking for Show
– Light Maintenance

THEATER WARDROBE SUPERVISOR

The John W. Engeman Theater is currently seeking a full-time Wardrobe Supervisor.

Responsibilities include : maintaining costume quality throughout the run of performances, costume preparations, laundry, assisting actors with costume changes, maintaining and cleaning costumes, striking show at closing, and creating all wardrobe paperwork. Wig maintenance helpful but not required.

Ideal candidate will have strong people and organizational skills, as well as experience with sewing, costume crafts, and some wig and makeup skills. Must have own transportation. Position to begins immediately.

THEATRICAL DRESSERS

Dressers must have prior experience in dressing a quick-change heavy show and must be able to facilitate quick changes during each performance as well as handle minor alterations and repairs, laundry, pressing and steaming of costumes. Must possess quick problem solving skills, great organizational ability and must work well in a team environment. Must be available for the entire run of shows, including all of tech week.

All candidates must provide their own transportation to the theater in Northport, NY.

THEATER HAIR, WIG & MAKEUP SUPERVISOR

The John W. Engeman Theater in Northport Long Island, NY is seeking a Wig and Hair Supervisor. Applicant should have experience in styling and maintaining wigs as well as the ability to cut and style human hair. Previous experience in running shows and creating period hairstyles is required. Local to Northport preferred. Must have own transportation.

THEATER BOX OFFICE CUSTOMER SERVICE

IMMEDIATE OPENINGS

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Box Office Associate is responsible for providing world-class customer service to all John W. Engeman Theater patrons for the purpose of providing them with a memorable overall theatrical experience.

Essential job duties and responsibilities include:

– Professional communication skills
– Ability to work with others in a fast-paced environment
– Computer skills are a must!
– Flexible schedule; weekends required

HOUSEKEEPER/PORTER

The John W. Engeman Theater at Northport is currently seeking a full-time housekeeper/porter to help maintain the overall cleanliness of The Theater.  Candidate should be reliable and dependable and be able to communicate clearly.

Daily tasks to include but are not limited to:

* Vacuum, sweep, mop and otherwise clean/maintain the floors and carpets
* Scour, wash, clean/maintain all wash basins, sinks and toilets
* Dust, polish and clean/maintain all surfaces in the theater; spot clean walls as needed
* Replace light bulbs, toilet tissues, air fresheners as needed
* Any other cleaning and maintenance duties as necessary

The candidate should have a high standard of cleanliness

VALET CAPTAIN

The John W. Engeman Theater at Northport is currently looking for a Valet Captain to join our team.

In order to ensure that the John W. Engeman Theater at Northport’s customer service standards are upheld and valet tasks are performed efficiently, a valet captain oversees the staffing, training and daily duties of the valet team.

Candidates should have:

  • A clean background check and driving record
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • The ability to work flexible hours, including nights, holidays, and weekends
  • A good working knowledge of most vehicles
  • An ability to drive a manual transmission
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license
  • Prior valet experience is preferred

 

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with car parking duties during busy periods
  • Coordinate parking solutions for various events
  • Ensure the safety and security of all valet parked vehicles
  • Periodically checked vehicles stored in lots
  • Evaluated the performance of each staff member
  • Ensure that valet traffic is not impacted town traffic

VALET DRIVERS

The John W. Engeman Theater, Long Island’s only year round professional theater, in the heart of Northport village, is looking for energetic Valet Parking Attendants.

 

Attendants must be extremely outgoing, friendly, clean-cut, and consistently offer the highest quality customer service.

 

* Must have a valid and clean license
* Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.
* Must be motivated and show initiative
* Excellent communication skills
* Exhibits high level of commitment
* Must be honest, hospitable and enthusiastic
* Must take great pride in their work
* Greeting customers promptly and with a friendly attitude.
* Park and return customer vehicles upon request in a timely and safe manner.
* Run long distances during shift.
* Be able to work outdoors in all types of weather.
* Dress & act professional at all times.
* Must be able to drive manual transmission

 

BARTENDER

Bartenders must be extremely outgoing, reliable, friendly, clean-cut, and consistently offer the highest quality customer service. Bartending experience is necessary for this position.

* Must be able to work flexible hours, including late nights, weekends and holidays.
* Excellent communication skills
* Must be honest, hospitable and enthusiastic
* Work quickly & efficiently while providing a great experience to our guests
* Ability to learn/use computer system.
* Good analytical skills, and the ability to handle cash transactions effectively.
* Dress & act professional at all times.
