SEEKING:

NEWSIES/MALE ENSEMBLE: (Male, Late teens – Mid 20s) Strong Dancer/Singers to play various Newsies. There is no Tap in this production. Dancers should have strong ballet, jazz, with an urban edge. Newsies should be tough, street smart exterior with a lovable interior that is reserved for their friends and loved ones. Tumbling a plus.

FEMALE ENSEMBLE: (Female, Late teens – Mid 20s) Strong Dancer/Singers to play various Ensemble roles including Showgirl, Nun, Bowery Beauty and Hannah.

2018-2019 Season Youth Theater Auditions

The John W. Engeman Theater at Northport is holding open auditions for its 2018 -2019 Youth Theater Season on Saturday, April 21st from 2pm to 5pm. We are seeking adults 18+ as well as children between the ages of 10 and 17.  Please see the schedule below for the appropriate time to show up. This exciting season includes: SHREK, THE LITTLE MERMAID JR., SCHOOL HOUSE ROCK, FROSTY, SEUSSICAL TYA, CAT IN THE HAT, MADAGASCAR, and FLAT STANLEY. Sign up begins at 1:00PM for Children and 2:30PM for Adults. Auditions will be held at The JWE Theater at 250 Main Street, Northport, NY 11768. We are seeking adults 18+ and children between the ages of 10 and 17.

Prepare and bring sheet music for (2) contrasting 16 bar cuts as well as a short monologue. There will be dancing as well.

Performance Dates July 28 – September 2, 2018

 Shrek: A big, green, terrifying ogre who lives alone on a swamp. He embarks on a journey to rid his land of fairytale creatures and, along the way, falls in love with Fiona. Begins as a grumpy hermit, but reveals his layers and eventually becomes the hero. Gender: Male. Vocal range top: G#4 – Vocal range bottom: A2

Princess Fiona: The beautiful princess of Far Far Away, she transforms into an ogre every night when the sun sets. Rescued by Shrek and eventually falls in love with him. Quirky, blunt, and multitalented, she is not an ordinary princess. Gender: Female.Vocal range top: G6Vocal range bottom: F3

Donkey: A talking donkey who joins Shrek on the run from Farquaad’s guards. Quite the chatterbox, he is not deterred by Shrek’s looks and practically forces himself into his good graces. Easily frightened and pushy, but also an optimistic with heart. Gender: Male. Vocal range top: B4Vocal range bottom: C3

Lord Farquaad: The comically short, ruthless ruler of Duloc. He is in search of a princes to marry so that he can become king. Has an intensely unfair bias against fairytale creatures that stems from a resentment of his father. Self-absorbed, lonely, and cruel. Gender: Male. Vocal range top: D5Vocal range bottom: B2

Dragon: A dragon that has been charged with guarding Princess Fiona in her isolated castle. She eventually falls in love with Donkey and attempts to keep him there forever. Imposing and flirtatious, but tired of her job as the glorified baby-sitter. Gender: Female. Vocal range top: Eb5Vocal range bottom: F3

Gingy: A gingerbread man initially kidnapped by Lord Farquaad. His wit and resolution help him both avoid trouble and inspire the rest of the fairytale creatures. Gender: Female. Vocal range top: C#5Vocal range bottom: B3

Pinocchio: The leader of the fairytale creatures. He is an animated puppet whose nose grows every time he lies. Plenty of sass with a penchant for lying. Gender: Male. Vocal range top: F#4Vocal range bottom: E3

The Cat In The Hat: The essence of mischief, fun and imagination. The Cat stirs things up, causes trouble, but always sets things right again, helping JoJo to discover the power of his imagination as they create the story for the show together. Must be comfortable improvising with an audience. Male or Female. Vocal range top: F4Vocal range bottom: F2

Jojo: Jojo is a “Thinker”–a smart child with a wild imagination. He can be played as being a little bit awkward, a little bit of a loner, or simply a rambunctious kid whose ‘Thinks’ get him into constant trouble. By the end of the show, he learns what it means to be a responsible member of his world, using the power and possibilities of his own ‘Thinks. Male or Female. Horton The Elephant: Gentle, rotund and appealing. Think of him as a big-hearted blue collar guy who is steadfast and responsible and always tries to do the right thing for his friends. He is imaginative and receptive to the world around him. He is very un-self-conscious. Horton’s view of the world never changes–he believes in its goodness. But by the end of the show, without even realizing it, he is ready to become a parent. Male. Vocal range top: F4Vocal range bottom: A2

Gertrude Mcfuzz: Very self-conscious and aware that her one-feather tail isn’t perfect. Gertrude changes during the show from a vain, neurotic, nervous and shy bird into one with the power to protect and care for a baby elephant bird and commit herself to Horton. In other words, she stops worrying about her looks and grows up doing what she wants. Female. Vocal range top: F5Vocal range bottom: F3

Mayzie Labird: Self-centered, selfish and vain, Mayzie will never admit to her own flaws. She manipulates anyone she can (especially Horton) into doing what she wants. But Mayzie isn’t all bad. In giving up her egg to Horton once and for all, she has a moment of generosity–she realizes she isn’t the kind of person who’d be a good parent, and she does the best thing she can do for the egg. Sour Kangaroo: She isn’t really sour at all. She’s just got a lot of attitude. She’s loud, brassy and a lot of fun. Female. Vocal range top: F5Vocal range bottom: F#3

Mr. Mayor/Wickersham: Mr. and Mrs. Mayor are parents trying hard to raise a difficult child in a difficult world. They may get aggravated with Jojo, but they love him dearly and try to do the right thing, even if it turns out to be a mistake. Male. Vocal range top: E4 – Vocal range bottom: D3

The John W. Engeman Theater at Northport is seeking Stage Management, Stage Crew, Directors, Choreographers, and Music Directors for its upcoming and exciting 2018-2019 Season. The public and ed rep productions include: SHREK, THE LITTLE MERMAID JR., SCHOOL HOUSE ROCK, FROSTY, SEUSSICAL TYA, CAT IN THE HAT, MADAGASCAR, and FLAT STANLEY. We are also seeking counselors and staff for our 2018 Summer Camp featuring three productions: THE JUNGLE BOOK, NEWSIES and YOU’RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN. HEAD CARPENTER

The John W. Engeman Theater is currently seeking a Head Carpenter. Having experience in multiple fields is a plus. We have shows running all year around. The Carpenter hired will be working in our Ronkonkoma based scenic shop as well as our Northport location, 400 seat Proscenium theater. Theatrical carpentry experience preferred. This is an immediate position.

Qualifications:
– General Stagecraft
– Ability to lift at least 75lbs
– Comfortable working at heights
– Must be able to take direction and work with a team
-Comfortable operating machinary
-Paint and welding skill are a plus!

THEATRICAL STAGE TECHNICIAN

The John W. Engeman Theater is currently seeking stage technicians. We are looking for technicians with experience in all fields (Lighting, Sound, and Carpentry.) Having experience in multiple fields is a plus. We have shows running all year around. The Technician will be working in a 400 seat Proscenium theater.

The John W. Engeman Theater at Northport is seeking a skilled and experienced Scenic Painter for upcoming productions. Position to begin immediately. Must be local to Long Island with own transportation.

THEATRICAL DRESSERS

Dressers must have prior experience in dressing a quick-change heavy show and must be able to facilitate quick changes during each performance as well as handle minor alterations and repairs, laundry, pressing and steaming of costumes. Must possess quick problem solving skills, great organizational ability and must work well in a team environment. Must be available for the entire run of shows, including all of tech week.

All candidates must provide their own transportation to the theater in Northport, NY.

THEATER HAIR, WIG & MAKEUP SUPERVISOR

The John W. Engeman Theater in Northport Long Island, NY is seeking a Wig and Hair Supervisor. THEATER BOX OFFICE CUSTOMER SERVICE

IMMEDIATE OPENINGS

The John W. Engeman Theater is seeking part-time, permanent, Box Office Customer Service employees.

Candidate should be available both during the week and on the weekend, 15-25 hrs per week.

Essential job duties and responsibilities include: Professional communication skills, the ability to work with others in a fast-paced environment and strong computer skills.

The Box Office Associate is responsible for providing world-class customer service to all John W. Engeman Theater patrons for the purpose of providing them with a memorable overall theatrical experience. Qualified applicants should email resume to pmolloy@engemantheater.com.

HOUSEKEEPER/PORTER

The John W. Engeman Theater at Northport is currently seeking a full-time housekeeper/porter to help maintain the overall cleanliness of The Theater.  Candidate should be reliable and dependable and be able to communicate clearly.

Daily tasks to include but are not limited to:

* Vacuum, sweep, mop and otherwise clean/maintain the floors and carpets
* Scour, wash, clean/maintain all wash basins, sinks and toilets
* Dust, polish and clean/maintain all surfaces in the theater; spot clean walls as needed
* Replace light bulbs, toilet tissues, air fresheners as needed
* Any other cleaning and maintenance duties as necessary

The candidate should have a high standard of cleanliness

VALET CAPTAIN

The John W. Engeman Theater at Northport is currently looking for a Valet Captain to join our team.

In order to ensure that the John W. Engeman Theater at Northport’s customer service standards are upheld and valet tasks are performed efficiently, a valet captain oversees the staffing, training and daily duties of the valet team.

Candidates should have:

  • A clean background check and driving record
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • The ability to work flexible hours, including nights, holidays, and weekends
  • A good working knowledge of most vehicles
  • An ability to drive a manual transmission
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license
  • Prior valet experience is preferred

 

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with car parking duties during busy periods
  • Coordinate parking solutions for various events
  • Ensure the safety and security of all valet parked vehicles
  • Periodically checked vehicles stored in lots
  • Evaluated the performance of each staff member
  • Ensure that valet traffic is not impacted town traffic

The John W. Engeman Theater, Long Island’s only year round professional theater, in the heart of Northport village, is looking for energetic Valet Parking Attendants.
Attendants must be extremely outgoing, friendly, clean-cut, and consistently offer the highest quality customer service.

Bartenders must be extremely outgoing, reliable, friendly, clean-cut, and consistently offer the highest quality customer service. Bartending experience is necessary for this position.
