Elf Open and Local Auditions

The John W. Engeman Theater at Northport announces Local Auditions for BOYS FOR THE ROLE OF MICHAEL (Non-Union 10-15) and ADULTS and Open Auditions for ADULTS for its upcoming production of Elf on Sunday, August 19, 2018 and Wednesday, August 22, 2018 respectively. LOCAL CALL FOR BOYS FOR THE ROLE OF MICHAEL (Non-Union 10-15) AND ADULTS:

BOYS (Non-Union 10-15) AND ADULTS: 12pm – Sign-Up begins at 11:30am

ALL BOYS (Non-Union 10-15) AND ADULTS should prepare to sing first. Prepare 16 bars of music in the style of the show. You may sing from Elf. Bring your full book of music and a recent headshot/resume. Be prepared to stay and read or dance if asked. Have Dance Clothes, Jazz Shoes/Sneakers and/or Character Shoes. Have Taps with you, just in case. We may be typing at this call.

The producer will be actively casting from this call so attendance is highly recommended. We are seeing both Union and Non-Union for ALL ADULT ROLES. Please make sure union affiliation is clearly marked on your resume. We are seeking a diverse cast for this production and encourage all actors of all ethnicities to audition

OPEN CALL FOR ADULT DANCERS/SINGERS:

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2018 – 10am & 2pm

Pearl Studios

500 8th Avenue, 3rd Floor-Studio 306, NYC

WOMEN WHO DANCE/SING: 10am.  Sign up begins at 9am and the list will be pulled by 11am.

MEN WHO DANCE/SING:  2pm.  Sign up begins at 1pm and the list will be pulled by 3pm.

ALL MEN & WOMEN should come prepared to dance first. Jazz Shoes/Sneakers, Character Shoes. Have taps with you, just in case. Be prepared to stay and sing if asked. SEEKING:

 

BUDDY: (Male, 20-30) Tenor to G, Lead. Funny, and warm with an infectious personality; has been raised as one of Santa’s elves and has the innocence of a child; has outrageous enthusiasm for everything he sees and does but it is very genuine. Comedian with great subtle timing and must be a very strong mover with a great sense of physical comedy.

JOVIE: (Female, 20-30) Mezzo with strong Belt to D Flat, Lead. Comedic, appealing, and relatable New Yorker that doesn’t have much Christmas spirit until meeting Buddy.

WALTER HOBBS: (Male, 45-55) Bari-tenor, Lead. Upscale successful businessman who has become cold and distant with his family until Buddy enters their life. Workaholic with little time left for enjoying life or appreciating simple things.

EMILY HOBBS: (Female, 40-50) Mezzo with a strong belt up to a C, Supporting. Walter’s wife and Michael’s mother. At first overwhelmed by Buddy, but soon embraces him as part of the family. 

DEB: (Female, 30 to 45) a very strong character singer with an excellent belt, Supporting. Funny secretary at Walter’s office, full of character and sharp wit. Must be a strong mover.

GREENWAY: (Male, 50-60) Supporting. Strong singer with great comic timing. Shrewd businessman.

SANTA: (Male, 50 to 60) Strong Singer, Supporting. Jolly, warm, funny; a down to earth blue-collar type. Lovable.

STORE MANAGER: (Male, 30 to 50) Supporting. Strong singer with excellent comedic timing. Funny, physically large, full of character, lots of attitude, sassy and spirited.

FEMALE ENSEMBLE: (Female, 20s to 40s) To play various roles including store/office workers & elves. Must have an excellent sense of humor and a commitment to collaborate in an ensemble. Strong Singer/Dancers. (Various Vocal Ranges) Ensemble will cover lead roles.

MALE ENSEMBLE: (Male, 20s to 40s) To play various roles including store/office workers & elves. Must have an excellent sense of humor and a commitment to collaborate in an ensemble. Strong Singer/Dancers. (Various Vocal Ranges) Ensemble will cover lead roles.

 MICHAEL HOBBS: (Non-Union Male, 10-15) Tenor up to a C, Supporting. Funny and smart; quickly bonds with Buddy and is determined to share a great Christmas with his entire family.

HEAD CARPENTER

The John W. Engeman Theater is currently seeking a Head Carpenter. Having experience in multiple fields is a plus. We have shows running all year around. The Carpenter hired will be working in our Ronkonkoma based scenic shop as well as our Northport location, 400 seat Proscenium theater. Theatrical carpentry experience preferred. This is an immediate position.

Qualifications:
– General Stagecraft
– Ability to lift at least 75lbs
– Comfortable working at heights
– Must be able to take direction and work with a team
-Comfortable operating machinary
-Paint and welding skill are a plus!

Responsibilities:
– Providing support to all productions
– Building Scenic elements, Set-up, operation and Striking for Show

THEATRICAL STAGE TECHNICIAN

The John W. Engeman Theater is currently seeking stage technicians. We are looking for technicians with experience in all fields (Lighting, Sound, and Carpentry.) Having experience in multiple fields is a plus. We have shows running all year around. The Technician will be working in a 400 seat Proscenium theater.

Qualifications:
– General Stagecraft
– Ability to lift at least 75lbs
– Comfortable working at heights
– Must be able to take direction

Responsibilities:
– Providing support to all productions
– Set-up, operation and Striking for Show
– Light Maintenance

SCENIC PAINTER

The John W. Engeman Theater at Northport is seeking a skilled and experienced Scenic Painter for upcoming productions. Position to begin immediately. Must be local to Long Island with own transportation.

THEATRICAL DRESSERS

Dressers must have prior experience in dressing a quick-change heavy show and must be able to facilitate quick changes during each performance as well as handle minor alterations and repairs, laundry, pressing and steaming of costumes. Must possess quick problem solving skills, great organizational ability and must work well in a team environment. Must be available for the entire run of shows, including all of tech week.

All candidates must provide their own transportation to the theater in Northport, NY.

THEATER HAIR, WIG & MAKEUP SUPERVISOR

The John W. Engeman Theater in Northport Long Island, NY is seeking a Wig and Hair Supervisor. Applicant should have experience in styling and maintaining wigs as well as the ability to cut and style human hair. Previous experience in running shows and creating period hairstyles is required. Local to Northport preferred. Must have own transportation.

THEATER BOX OFFICE CUSTOMER SERVICE

The John W. Engeman Theater is seeking part-time, permanent, Box Office Customer Service employees.

Candidate should be available both during the week and on the weekend, 15-25 hrs per week.

Essential job duties and responsibilities include: Professional communication skills, the ability to work with others in a fast-paced environment and strong computer skills.

The Box Office Associate is responsible for providing world-class customer service to all John W. Engeman Theater patrons for the purpose of providing them with a memorable overall theatrical experience. Qualified applicants should email resume to pmolloy@engemantheater.com.

HOUSEKEEPER/PORTER

The John W. Engeman Theater at Northport is currently seeking a full-time housekeeper/porter to help maintain the overall cleanliness of The Theater.  Candidate should be reliable and dependable and be able to communicate clearly.

Daily tasks to include but are not limited to:

* Vacuum, sweep, mop and otherwise clean/maintain the floors and carpets
* Scour, wash, clean/maintain all wash basins, sinks and toilets
* Dust, polish and clean/maintain all surfaces in the theater; spot clean walls as needed
* Replace light bulbs, toilet tissues, air fresheners as needed
* Any other cleaning and maintenance duties as necessary

The candidate should have a high standard of cleanliness

VALET CAPTAIN

The John W. Engeman Theater at Northport is currently looking for a Valet Captain to join our team.

In order to ensure that the John W. Engeman Theater at Northport’s customer service standards are upheld and valet tasks are performed efficiently, a valet captain oversees the staffing, training and daily duties of the valet team.

Candidates should have:

  • A clean background check and driving record
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • The ability to work flexible hours, including nights, holidays, and weekends
  • A good working knowledge of most vehicles
  • An ability to drive a manual transmission
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license
  • Prior valet experience is preferred

 

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with car parking duties during busy periods
  • Coordinate parking solutions for various events
  • Ensure the safety and security of all valet parked vehicles
  • Periodically checked vehicles stored in lots
  • Evaluated the performance of each staff member
  • Ensure that valet traffic is not impacted town traffic

The John W. Engeman Theater, Long Island’s only year round professional theater, in the heart of Northport village, is looking for energetic Valet Parking Attendants.
Attendants must be extremely outgoing, friendly, clean-cut, and consistently offer the highest quality customer service.

* Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.
